If you already know when to go and which area to visit (we covered that in our guide \u00abWhen to Go, What to Skip, and Whether It\u2019s Worth It\u00bb), here\u2019s the practical part: the actual step-by-step itinerary to make the most of the entire park without wandering around unnecessarily or missing the viewpoints that almost no one visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before we begin: two posts, not one<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Park G\u00fcell has several entrances, but it's best to enter through the main entrance (Carrer d\u2019Olot)<\/strong>, which is where the Historic District begins and where the information center is located. If you enter through another entrance (there are several in the upper part of the park, all free of charge), you\u2019ll skip the logical order of the route and it\u2019s easy to get lost among the trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 1 \u2014 Las Casas de la Entrada<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Just past the main gate, two pavilions with undulating roofs covered in trencad\u00eds (a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles) flank the entrance. One served as a gatehouse, the other as the caretaker\u2019s residence. It\u2019s worth stopping here before heading up: they\u2019re among the most photographed buildings in the park, and early in the morning they\u2019re almost empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 2 \u2014 The Staircase and the Salamander<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Heading up from the entrance buildings, you'll reach the main staircase, where the famous mosaic salamander (\u00abel drac\u00bb) is located. As we mentioned in the previous guide, during the first few hours after opening, the line to take a photo is minimal or nonexistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 3 \u2014 The Hypostyle Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At the bottom of the staircase, a forest of 86 Doric columns supports what was to be the market of the original development. It\u2019s worth looking up: the ceiling is decorated with circular trencad\u00eds mosaics, each section featuring a different design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 4 \u2014 Nature Plaza (the wavy bench)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Climbing the side staircase from the Hypostyle Hall, you\u2019ll reach the large upper terrace, with its winding mosaic-covered bench that circles the entire plaza. It\u2019s also the best viewpoint in the Monumental Zone overlooking Barcelona and the sea\u2014take a few minutes to sit here, not just for the photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 5 \u2014 The Lavandera Archway and the Viaducts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Leaving the Monumental Zone and heading into the park (the free section), a covered walkway with slanted columns\u2014designed to resemble tree trunks\u2014connects to the stone viaducts that Gaud\u00ed built to bridge the difference in elevation. This section is almost never crowded, and it\u2019s one of the most architecturally interesting parts because you can see the structural work without the decorative mosaic on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 6 \u2014 El Tur\u00f3 (the park's highest lookout point)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the trails up the hill, you\u2019ll come to a small mound with a three-armed cross (the \u00abTur\u00f3 de les Tres Creus\u00bb). It\u2019s the highest point in Park G\u00fcell and offers the best views of the entire park\u2014many visitors don\u2019t even know it exists because it\u2019s outside the Monumental Zone and isn\u2019t marked on standard tourist maps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Stop 7 (optional) \u2014 Gaud\u00ed House Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n If you have time and a separate ticket, the house where Gaud\u00ed lived for nearly 20 years is located inside the park, near the main entrance. You don't need to combine it with the Monumental Zone\u2014it has a separate admission fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Total trip time<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Taking your time and stopping at all 7 spots: between 2 and 2.5 hours.
