Salou — What's the atmosphere like, and which area is right for you?
Not all of Salou is the same: Passeig Jaume I, Cap Salou, and the Llevant area attract very different crowds. Where you stay depends on who you're traveling with.
Salou is PortAventura, yes, but it’s also home to six beaches, each with its own unique character, and a headland dotted with coves that almost no one visits. Here, we’ll tell you which ticket is right for you and what to do on the days you’re not visiting the park. Skip-the-line tickets and curated experiences.
Planning a trip to Salou is the opposite of how you'd plan other destinations: first, you decide which days to spend at the park, and the rest of the itinerary falls into place around that. Getting your admission right saves you more time than getting up early.

Ten minutes from Salou, the fishing village with the best food on the entire Costa Dorada. The perfect plan for a day without theme parks.
PortAventura World isn't just one park—it's three: the PortAventura Park as always, Ferrari Land and the aquatic one Caribe Aquatic Park. The type of ticket you buy determines how many times you can enter and how much extra you pay.
A tip to avoid disappointment: during the off-season, the parks aren't open every day, and Ferrari Land and Caribe have their own operating schedules, which are shorter than PortAventura Park's. It's a good idea to check the schedule before finalizing your travel dates.
Salou has a city beach and coves lined with pine trees, and the difference between making the right choice and the wrong one is a ten-minute walk.
If you're looking for a quiet beach, the rule is simple: the further south you go from the cape, the fewer people there are.
Caribe isn't the only one, and in August that matters: when one gets full, the others still have room.
The Costa Dorada has much more to offer than just attractions, and almost everything is less than an hour away from Salou.
The classic mistake is to go to the park three days in a row and end up exhausted on the last day. This schedule alternates between intensity and rest:
If you have three days, skip Day 3 and spend the afternoon of Day 1 at Caribe. If you have two, just go to PortAventura and the beach—that's it.

One day is enough to enjoy PortAventura Park without feeling rushed. Two days if you add Ferrari Land or Caribe—each of which takes about half a day to see. Three days if you want to go on the same rides again and not have to rush. For stays of two days or more, combo tickets are a much better deal than buying individual tickets.
It depends on who you're traveling with. It's significantly smaller than PortAventura Park and can be explored in half a day, but it has Red Force, one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in Europe. It's worth it if you're traveling with teenagers; if you're traveling with young children, PortAventura Park and Caribe offer much more to do.
May, June, and September: the parks are open, the sea is already warm, and there aren’t the long lines you see in August. July and August are peak season for everything. In the winter, PortAventura is only open on specific dates, such as Halloween and Christmas, so it’s a good idea to check the calendar before finalizing your trip.
Reus Airport is about fifteen minutes away, and Barcelona Airport is a little over an hour away by highway. By train, the PortAventura station is right next to the resort and connects to Tarragona and Barcelona. In Salou, you can get almost everywhere on foot; to reach the coves of Cap Salou, the Camí de Ronda is the best route.
It’s the main crowd, but not the only one. Cap Salou and the southern coves have a much more laid-back atmosphere, and Cambrils, just ten minutes away, is a culinary destination in its own right. The nightlife is concentrated in the Llevant area, so whether you seek it out or avoid it comes down to choosing your accommodations wisely.
